Background
Pip is a professional with experience in politics at a State and federal level and in journalism in rural and metropolitan newspapers. In the early 1990s she moved into strategic communication, working in the not-for-profit, university and government sectors. She was Media Manager and later State Strategic Communication Manager for the Queensland Department of Primary Industries & Fisheries. She later worked for Rowland Consulting as a Manager in both Stakeholder Engagement and Government Relations.
She developed a strong interest in public participation while working on the Fire Ant Eradication Program, one of Queensland's first significant community engagement projects in 2001. Since then she has been involved in several engagement projects, particularly the Southern Regional Water Pipeline Alliance project in Queensland from 2007.
Pip is currently researching community engagement practices in rural Australia and the role that government legislation, corporate agendas and media play in the success or failure of public participation in major projects and in areas of significant change..
She is also a qualified and registered high-school teacher and has taught in indigenous schools and in schools in low socio-economic areas.
